About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest, Paul Brogan, is a man who exemplifies the term “resilience”.

After coming out in the early 60’s at the age of 10, he suffered and overcame many harrowing obstacles, including severe asthma, bullying, sexual abuse, rape, depression, committal to a mental institution, gay conversion therapy, eating disorders, a suicide attempt and incarceration on 3 separate occasions.   Despite those challenges, he’s lived a remarkably adventurous, productive, and even glamorous life.

He’s an accomplished pianist and stage performer.  For a time he worked at CBS in Hollywood, and he met and befriended many celebrities including Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Eleanor Powell.  He had a lengthy and very close friendship with Doris Day.  He dedicated over a decade of his life to working tirelessly in non-profit organizations, to assist people living with HIV and AIDS, by organizing major fundraising events featuring big stars like Patti Page, Jack Jones, Carol Channing, Greg Louganis, Eileen Fulton and Jim Bailey.

He’s been a teacher, an award-winning blogger, a radio talk-show host, and for 5 years, he’s been hosting an award-winning TV interview show called “Capital Area Chats”.  He provided collaborative assistance and research support for 2 best selling books, "Crowning Glory", the 1996 autobiography of celebrated Hollywood hairstylist, Sydney Guilaroff, and "Doris Day, The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door", the 2008 book by David Kaufman.   His book, “The Concord Theatre and Concord’s Love Affair with the Movies”, became a best seller.

And now, he’s written a turbulent, compelling and sometimes shocking memoir entitled, “A Sprinkling of Stardust Over the Outhouse: Musings, Memories, Madness and Pillow Talk”.
